Retail executive spends $36m on another Toorak upgrade
Fresh from quitting Premier Investments for BBRC, retail executive Mark McInnes and his wife, Lisa, have quietly snapped up Toorak estate Dunraven.
The 2639 square metre pile with an eight bedroom Georgian mansion at 55 Clendon Road – said to be where Billy McMahon announced his engagement to Sonia Hopkins in 1965 – is speculated to be costing $36 million.
The vendor, Findex co-founder Terry Paule and his wife, Cornelia, whose name is on the title, paid $13.5m in late 2010; the property was said to have needed some work.
That seller was the four siblings of World War II soldier Martin Clemens and his wife, Anne, who developed it in 1945.
Mr McInnes was recently poached to Brett Blundy’s BBRC, which controls brands including Adairs, Bras N Things and Lovisa, and significant commercial real estate.
The executive was with Premier, owner of Just Jeans, Portmans and Smiggle, amongst other brands, since 2011, following a stint with David Jones.
Another Toorak upsize
With the Dunraven purchase, the McInnes’ have listed their nearby family home, 22 Stonnington Place, with $19.5-$21m price hopes (story continues below).
On 1282 sqm with a tennis court, and 10 car basement garage – that c1930 property, renovated by Steven Akehurst, cost $12.3m in May, 2017.
The purchase was somewhat of a surprise, coming the year after the pair outlaid $9.25m for Hopetoun Rd’s former Sark in April, 2016 (which they sold nine months later for $10.95m).
Marshall White’s Marcus Chiminello and Nicole French are marketing 22 Stonnington Pl.
The listing comes six years since the McInnes sold a unique North Bondi dwelling – three amalgamated apartments – for c$11.5m to aged care entrepreneur Mark Moran and his wife, Yvette.
In Ramsgate Avenue, that complex has direct waterfront access.
