Winx breeder doubles down on Surfers Paradise waterfront

Also today we are reporting R&F sold a West End apartment site for a loss.

Winx breeder John Camilleri has quietly bought another Surfers Paradise apartment development site.

Aalto would contain 75 dwellings over 38 levels.

The 1499 square metre waterfront amalgamation – 75-79 Garfield Terrace, at the south east corner of Enderley Avenue (shaded, image, top) – is setting the racing identity and developer back $53.65 million.

Vendor, Weiya Holdings paid $30m in 2021.

The following year, it obtained a permit for a 38 level tower with 75 dwellings – a project branded Aalto which failed to get out of the ground after an extended period of pre-marketing and a supposed $15m off-the-plan sale.

Second Surfers site

The deal for 75-79 Garfield Tce comes seven months since Mr Camilleri outlaid $30m for a 1682 sqm apartment development site, 3464-3468 Main Beach Parade, Surfers Paradise.

That seller was Hong Kong billionaire banker and racing identity, Aquis boss, Tony Fung, who paid $24m in 2016 (story continues below).

John Camilleri bought 3464-3468 Main Beach Parade (outlined) in May.

Accommodating a 10 level residential building known as Pacific Point and a three level walk-up block of flats, Mr Fung obtained a permit for a 48 level hotel with 580 suites – a project carrying a $440m end value.

Later, a residential scheme was proposed with two buildings – of 30 and 36 storeys – containing a total 83 flats.

Mr Camilleri is instead proposing a 40 level skyscraper tower over a four floor podium with 93 flats, communal recreation facilities including a 17 metre lap pool, gym, sauna and club lounge.

A three storey basement would contain 199 car parks.

Mr Camilleri and Weiya are Sydney based.
