Jarryl Wirth formed the first of several bands in the mid 1970s, when punk music in Australia was considered a dark cult. With two fellow Melbourne Swinburne Community School students, Wirth formed The News – which developed a strong following in Australia‘s alternative pub scene.
The punk trend was later made more famous by Nick Cave, who supported The News in some of their Melbourne shows. Other musicians to share the stage with Wirth included Sean Kelly, who later had fame with the band The Models.
Wirth’s home at 18 Howard Street in Box Hill includes 4-bedrooms, a study, gas log fireplace, paved outdoor entertaining area and large yard. Philip Webb Real Estate Box Hill selling agent Shane Corcoran says he expects more than $800,000 when it goes to auction at 12:30pm on Saturday September 8.
