Channel Seven buys Sydney warehouse for reality show
Four months after producers of Channel Nine TV show The Block reportedly spent $11 million for St Kilda’s Oslo Hotel – set to be the subject of the 15th season, to air next year – rival Channel Seven has bought a property, in Sydney’s Beaconsfield.
The double-storey warehouse at 12-14 Victoria Street (pictured top, left and bottom), near the Alexandria suburb border, was snapped up ahead of a scheduled auction for about $3 million, according to The Australian which first reported the deal today.
Channel Seven is speculated to be considering filming a residential redevelopment of the industrial property for one of its lifestyle shows, possibly House Rules or Better Homes & Gardens.
The trendy suburb of Beaconsfield is about five kilometres south of the CBD.
Knight Frank’s Demi Carigliano and Mark Silva promoted the property as “a creative warehouse with residential development upside”.
On a 780 square metre block, it was marketed as suitable for a townhouse project.
Formerly used as a jewellery manufacturing business, 12-14 Victoria Street, Beaconsfield, was offered with a lease until February 2019, returning $16,667 per annum in rent,
The ground floor is configured with a showroom while upstairs is an office and residence.
Walking distance to the new Green Square town centre and Green Square train station, the asset also includes a rooftop courtyard terrace and on-site car parking.
The deal comes as Channel Nine readies to sell apartments built into the former Gatwick Hotel in Melbourne’s bayside St Kilda, for its home renovation show, The Block.
The auction date for the Gatwick Hotel apartments is set for October 27, with the results to air in a season finale the day after.
We reported in August that Channel Nine is in the process of obtaining a permit to replace the former Oslo Hotel, in nearby Grey Street, with five luxury townhouses.
