French government leases swank Melbourne office
The French government has leased an inner-city office for its Consulate General of France in Melbourne.
The ninth floor space at 5 Queens Road, on a busy bend St Kilda Rd connects with Kings Way – spreads 148 square metres.
TE (or Tong Eng) Capital Partners is the landlord; it bought the asset for $116.6 million from Charter Hall in 2016.
A major upgrade was recently completed including to the lobby.
End of trip facilities and a business lounge have also been added.
“2024 is a symbolic year for French-Australian relations as it marks the 170th anniversary of the initial opening of a French consular agency in Melbourne back in 1854,” Ambassador of France to Australia, Pierre- André Imbert, said.
“Since 2000, France has been represented in Melbourne by an Honorary Consul,” he added.
“This [lease] decision marks an important moment in diplomatic relations between France and Australia and reflects our interest in developing cooperation within Australia,” according to the diplomat (story continues below).
String of deals
The Consulate General of France in Melbourne will join other new tenants this year – SIG, which leased 399 sqm, and the Family Business Association (256 sqm).
Colliers’ Nitesh Patel and Matt Cosgrave with Thorburn Commercial’s Kenny Thorburn were the agents.
Formerly Pura’s headquarters, 5 Queens Rd, Melbourne, with a postcode 3004, is about two kilometres south of Flinders Street Station.
The Consulate General of France in Sydney is at the St Martins Tower at 31 Market St in the CBD – managed by Mirvac.
