Homes, aged care set for The Dunes back nine site

Parts of the 2007 master-planned Port Hughes project including a nine hole golf course have been delivered.

Brisbane developer Metacap is planning to replace a 170 hectare Port Hughes site – until a decade ago earmarked to make way for the second nine holes of the Greg Norman designed Copperclub at The Dunes golf course, with a housing estate and lifestyle community.

Up to 460 dwellings are anticipated to be delivered over 15 years.

A luxury aged care complex, medical centre, hotel, shops and parks are also earmarked for the block, which the developer bought off receivers for $3 million in 2020.

Metacap is also completing aged care complex in its home state, at Agnes Water and Hervey Bay.

Its book also includes facilities of this type at Burpengary and Yandina and, in New South Wales, at Ballina.

Development at last

The Metacap site was earmarked for the balance of the Copperclub at The Dunes estate, which was to have included about 2000 dwellings (story continues below).

After launching in 2007, the former owners collapsed in 2012 when the land fell into the hands of the receivers.

Metacap bought one of the blocks.

The 18 year old company also constructs to sell dwellings, a mix of apartments, townhouses and standalone homes.

Its South Australian project, just approved by the local council, and with a speculated end value of c$300m, will sit south of the existing nine hole course.

Port Hughes is about a 170 kilometre drive north west of Adelaide.
