The Block producers buy nursing home for 2020 season

The Block producers have acquired a vacant tract in Melbourne’s Brighton for the 2020 season.
The c2770 square metre block, 360-364 New Street, on the north-east corner of Orchard Street, once accommodated the Andrina Private Nursing Home.
Sources said the vendor, a townhouse developer, was seeking about $13 million for the holding, which was not for public sale.
Savills’ Julian Heatherich is understood to have instead brokered deal worth almost $15m but declined to comment.
Producers are seeking a five-lot subdivision.

Second nursing home site for The Block
The Block producers acquired a former Elsternwick nursing-home for a series a couple of years ago – also subdividing it as five.
Each proposed New Street dwelling could sell for more than $4 million; Brighton is considered one of Melbourne’s most exclusive pockets.
The former Andrina facility was acquired as a residential development play for $5.3 million in mid-2013 by Nick Williams, the son of businessman and horse trainer, Lloyd, who sold it two years later for $10.23m.
The owner after that proposed One Orchard: 13 townhouses, each three-storeys and with three bedrooms, priced from between $2.3 million and $3.3 million (artist’s impression, below).
Last August, we reported details of five townhouses which The Block producers have built into the former Oslo Hotel in Grey Street, St Kilda as part of the 2019 series, which airs from August.
